# The Honest Truth
Let me start with a fact that nobody wants to admit: getting into FAANG from a Tier-3 college is harder, but not impossible. We have 14 Campus Hype members who did it in the last 18 months, and they followed a remarkably similar playbook.
What Doesn't Work
- ✓Random LeetCode grinding without strategy
- ✓Watching 10-hour YouTube tutorials passively
- ✓Applying to 500 companies through portal forms
- ✓Waiting for placement season to start preparing
What Actually Works
###
Not a TODO app. Not a clone. Something with at least 100 actual users. This signals: you can ship, you can market, you understand product.
###
Focus on the 75 most-asked patterns, not 1000 random problems. We have a free DSA cheatsheet that helped Priya crack her Google interview after 3 rejections.
###
Most juniors ignore this until interviews. Bad idea. Start reading high-level system design books (Designing Data-Intensive Applications by Kleppmann) early. You will not understand everything — that's fine.
###
Nobody — and we mean nobody — should apply through the portal at FAANG. Reach out on LinkedIn. Build relationships at hackathons. Get warm intros. Cold applications convert at 0.5%. Referrals convert at 18%.
###
We ran 200+ mock interviews this year through Campus Hype's peer interview pool. Members who did 10+ mocks had a 75% real-interview success rate.
A Real Story
Arjun was at a Tier-3 college in Indore. CGPA 6.8. No internships. In December 2025 he joined Campus Hype. In June 2026 he started at Amazon Bangalore as SDE-1. Six months. Here's what he did:
- ✓Months 1-2: Built a real project (event ticketing tool used by his college). Got 800 users.
- ✓Month 3: Joined our Interview Crack Bootcamp. 6 weeks of DSA + system design.
- ✓Months 4-5: 30+ mock interviews via Campus Hype peer pool. Three rejections from smaller companies along the way.
- ✓Month 6: Got referral to Amazon through a Campus Hype mentor. Cracked the loop.
What to do this week
That's it. No magic. Consistency over intensity.
