Overview

Year 1 is the time to explore, not specialize

You just started engineering. You're drowning in textbooks. Seniors are flexing internships. Your parents are asking about CGPA. LinkedIn is full of 19-year-olds with 7-figure salaries. It is overwhelming, and most students respond by doing one of two things: copying whatever their topper friend is doing, or freezing entirely.

Both are wrong. Year 1 is the time to explore. Try a little bit of everything. Discover what you actually enjoy. Build the programming foundation that all later specializations stand on.

Our 1st-year program is designed exactly for that. We give you exposure to 6+ tech areas, build solid C/C++/Python foundations, run weekly workshops on each domain, and pair you with a 3rd/4th-year mentor who has been where you are. By end of year 1, you know what you want to specialize in — and have the foundation to do it.

Who is this for

Is this program right for you?

First-year engineering students

Any branch — CSE, ECE, EE, ME, Civil, Chemical. We tune the exploration to your interests.

Confused 1st-years

Have no idea what you want to do? Perfect — this program is designed for exactly that.

Driven 1st-years

Already know you want to do tech? Great. We help you go deeper, faster, with the right foundation.

Non-CS-branch students

Mech / Civil / EE etc. who want to dip into tech? We have a specific track for that.

Curriculum

8-week 1st-year curriculum

Weeks 1–4: foundations. Weeks 5–7: domain exploration. Week 8: discovery + plan.

M1 Week 1 — Programming foundations (C) Week 1

C — because every other language is easier once you understand C. Pointers, memory, structs.

  • Variables, control flow, functions
  • Arrays, strings, pointers
  • Structs + memory model
  • 15+ exercises
M2 Week 2 — Object-oriented programming (C++ or Java) Week 2

Classes, inheritance, polymorphism — the OOP foundation.

  • Classes + objects
  • Inheritance + interfaces
  • Polymorphism + encapsulation
  • Mini OOP project (game / system)
M3 Week 3 — Python & modern dev tools Week 3

Python (because it is the most versatile) + Git + GitHub + terminal basics.

  • Python syntax + standard library
  • Functions, OOP in Python
  • Git + GitHub + first repo
  • Linux terminal + basic shell
M4 Week 4 — Web fundamentals (HTML / CSS / JS) Week 4

Build your first website. Why? Because shipping something visible is motivating.

  • HTML5 semantic structure
  • CSS Flexbox + Grid
  • JavaScript basics
  • Deploy your first website live
M5 Week 5 — Domain tasting (Web / Data / AI) Week 5

3 hands-on workshops — one each on web dev, data analysis, basic ML.

  • Web — build a personal portfolio site
  • Data — analyze a real dataset with pandas
  • AI — first ML model (regression on a dataset)
  • Pick: which excited you most?
M6 Week 6 — Domain tasting (Mobile / Cloud / Cyber) Week 6

3 more workshops — mobile (Flutter), cloud (AWS), cyber security basics.

  • Mobile — build a simple app
  • Cloud — deploy something on AWS free tier
  • Cyber — CTF challenges + ethical hacking basics
  • Pick: which intrigued you?
M7 Week 7 — Soft skills + aptitude foundations Week 7

Communication, writing, basic aptitude — long-game foundation for placements.

  • Email etiquette + tech writing
  • Public speaking — 2 mini-presentations
  • Quant + logical aptitude baseline
  • Reading habit + curated resource list
M8 Week 8 — Discovery synthesis + career plan Week 8

Reflect, choose, plan. You leave with a 12-month roadmap for year 2.

  • Psychometric profile + reflection
  • 1:1 mentor session — career path discussion
  • Personalized 12-month roadmap (year 2)
  • Mini-project showcase + cohort send-off

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

I am from a non-CS branch — is this for me?

Absolutely yes. Mechanical, Civil, Electrical students who learn coding early often have an edge — they have engineering thinking + coding skills. Our program adapts the project to your interest area.

Will my college schedule allow this?

Sessions are evenings (7–9 PM IST) + weekend mornings. We tested with students from IIT Delhi, NIT Trichy, VIT, Tier-3 engineering colleges — schedule works for all.

Is 1st year too early?

It is the <i>only</i> time you have to explore without consequences. By 3rd year you have to specialize. 1st year is when generalist energy compounds the most.

What about my CGPA?

This program is engineered to <i>not</i> hurt your CGPA. 10–15 hrs/week alongside classes. Many students report higher CGPA after this because programming improves problem-solving generally.
